I am completely delighted to offer you this Fantastic Yo Yo Quilt. In my 39 years as an Antique dealer, I have sold a number of Yo Yo quilts. I have never seen one done as well as this one.
The maker made much smaller “flowers” than “normal” Each flower contains 6 plain colored yo’s with a grain sack printed one in the center. They are much smaller than any I have ever seen. Please note in one of the photos I have a closeup of one yo with a US Quarter placed on it. Look at a US quarter and you will be stunned by the size of these compared to a “normal” Yo Yo Quilt. The way this quilt was made there are much smaller gaps or open spaces between the yo yos. You honestly can barely even see the back from the front side.
The light blue underside is comprised of 2 pieces of a polished cotton which have been joined into one large “sheet.” The “sheet” is hand sewn with whip stitches to the front or top of the quilt. It is astonishing how small the stitches are and how many hours it must have taken to just add the backing.
The colors are bright and cheerful. It may never have been used there is no fading. There is some fading to the underside blue fabric. That may be the reason the maker chose to use this fabric rather than waste it. PLEASE study the pictures, there are many nuances to this quilt that you don’t see with a cursory look. Upon studied inspection you will enjoy something new each time you look at it.
I have always wondered how long it must have taken to make a yo yo quilt? When I really looked at this one, I doubled my guess. This is a true Museum Worthy Quilt, made by a very skilled quilter.
