I am so pleased to offer you this wonderful Late Teens Van Briggle Vase. I have seen this vase referred to as “the crocus” vase. It sure doesn’t look like it to me. I see a hand carved Arch pattern bottom to top all the way around. The top is also carved with a pattern that looks like the sun and it’s rays. This is known as a dirty bottom piece. It is one of the ways that you can date Van Briggle. The company never gave it an official name. It can be found in the following book: Van Briggle Art Pottery Richard Sasicki and Josie Fania on page 50. I believe this number is the authors of the book as a reference number, not a Van Briggle pattern number. The pot is glazed with the famous Van Briggle Mulberry color. In my professional opinion, one of the most important things about collecting anything is to buy the best example of the piece. Never settle. With pottery one of the things you must look for is mold definition. If it is a hand thrown piece like this, you want strong carving in the pattern. Be assured if you choose to purchase this piece, it meets both of those requirements.
DIMENSIONS: 7 ½” tall X approximately 3” wide across the top.
CONDITION: Very nice vintage condition There are no chips, cracks, hairlines or other surface blemishes. There has been no restoration done on this pot. Please note: For your protection and mine I will have a tag on this pot when you receive it. Should you choose to return it this must still be in place.
