We are delighted to offer this Victorian Heubach German Bisque Swinger or Hanging Match Holder. This Victorian era hanging match holder is known as a swinger. They were made to be filled with matches and hung from the base of a hanging kerosene lamp. When you pulled on the little girls body, the chandelier came down from the ceiling to enable you or the maid to ignite or extinguish the candles or the gas. How elegant!! I believe this one to be Heubach. If you are familiar with Heubach you know that you can identify Heubach by the trademark faces only they used. Some of their pieces were marked many were not. The only thing missing on this little girl is the original cord. According to information I have read about these objects, the companies that made these used a silk/velvet ribbon or braided cord. Another company that did these is Conta Boehm also a German company.

CONDITION: It has one very old hairline on the bench. I have provided a close up of this spot. I have washed her twice but I do think she could stand another bath! Trust me she was REALLY dirty!
