We are so pleased to present this Black and White Victorian Aesthetic Movement Turkey Size Platter, named Lily and Vase by Thomas Elsmore & Son. The pattern is done in a complex Japanesque style. It has a large spray of Bamboo on one side and an open fan on the other. The fan holds several Butterflies. There are several butterflies outside the fan and a Dragon fly near the Cherry blossom branches. The central part of the platter has a panel with a Dragon and other character’s. This platter is large and heavy. It will host a “big bird” or roast comfortably. About the maker: Elsmore & Forster produced a simpler (non-aesthetic) version of Lily & Vase in the 1860's this company became Thomas Elsmore in 1872. The diamond registry code was issued in 1878, though the pattern was used for fifteen years before then. Elsmore began using the word ENGLAND well before the McKinley Tariff Act of 1890 - probably around 1885. Around 1885, Elsmore changed their earthenware body to a stoneware, or granite ware, which they proudly proclaimed as Parisian Granite on their back markings. Given these facts we date this piece between 1872 and 1885.
