This wonderful circa 1900 Sweet Grass Pin Cushion Basket has a Double Lashed Rim. As you can see the velvet fabric has worn with age and there are tiny spots where pins were rested. I does have it’s original black fabric button centered in the top. I purchased this here in northern New Hampshire. I have seen this style of basket called Shaker, but I believe it to be Native American. Perhaps Penobscot.
The basket itself is perfect, with no breaks or damage. Given it’s age this is a testament to its construction. It has a double lashed rim for strength, unusual for these baskets. Most I have found in the past have single rims. There is a similar basket to this one in the book, Sewing Tools and Trinkets.
DIMENSIONS: 2 1/8” across bottom X 2 ½” across the top
CONDITION: as noted above the only thing to report is the wear to the velvet.
