This wonderful circa 1900 Sweet Grass Pin Cushion Basket has a Double Lashed Rim. As you can see the velvet fabric has worn with age and there are tiny spots where pins were rested. I does have it’s original black fabric button centered in the top. I purchased this here in northern New Hampshire. I have seen this style of basket called Shaker, but I believe it to be Native American Indian. Perhaps Penobscot Maine, or Mohawk from New York State.
The basket itself is perfect, with no breaks or damage. Given it’s age this is a testament to its construction. It has a double lashed rim for strength, unusual for these baskets. Most I have found in the past have single rims. There is a similar basket to this one in the book, Sewing Tools and Trinkets.
DIMENSIONS: 2 1/8” across bottom X 2 ½” across the top
CONDITION: as noted above the only thing to report is the wear to the velvet.
