We are pleased to offer these two books,The Life of Rev John Murray published in 1832 and is probably a First Edition. The second book is "Questions on the select portions of the Four Evangelists." Published in 1831. Included are Sermons from As Early as 1813. The following information about Rev Murray was taken from the "Find a Grave" website. Birth: Dec. 10, 1741 Hampshire, England Death: Sep. 3, 1815 Boston Suffolk County Massachusetts Rev Murray is considered the founder of American Universalism, Murray grew up in England and Ireland in a strict Calvinist home, converted to Methodism as a teenager, and not many years later discovered James Relly's Universalist teachings. Murray's Universalist beliefs led to his being excommunicated from the Methodist Church. Moving to America in 1770, he traveled the Northeast, preaching Universalism. After several years of itinerant ministry, Murray settled in Gloucester, Massachusetts, where he established a Universalist congregation. He moved to Boston in 1793 and remained there until his death. This volume was published after his death although most of it was written by him. Rev L.S. Everett seems to have collected all the text presented and had it published by Marsh, Capen and Lyon of Boston in 1832. It was listed with the Library of Congress in 1831. The brown hard board cover does have soilingand is not perfect by any streach. The first several pages including the title page and litho of the Rev are loose from the spine. The book is 182 years old, it's not perfect but very rare and still with care, most readable.
I am including with this book a second book. Questions on the select portions of the Four Evangelists. Published in 1831. It has no cover and was hand stitched together. Designed for the higher classes in Sunday School. Compiled by Joseph Allen Minister of Northborough,Mass. This is very much an "is what it is" but again 182 years old!
