We are delighted to offer this Minton Majolica Chinese Actor Teapot Circa 1870s Circa 1870. Attribution for this piece can be found in Michael Strawser's Auction catalog, page 130, October 15, 2015. As you can see in the picture of the bottom, it is marked but using Godden's and several other references I can't positively identify it as Minton. In the world of Majolica if Strawser's identifies it as Minton, it is. The body of the pot is molded as a Japanese dwarf dressed in a cobalt robe, holding a mask of a dark skinned person. Good bright colorful glaze decoration all round, pink interior. The back of his "head" and the braided handle are done in a mottled sponged glaze. The pot has a painted mark to the base. I guarantee it to be vintage circa 1870's/80's. This is a very difficult piece to find, this is your chance to own a terrific piece of majolica. Having collected Majolica for 35+ years I feel comfortable calling this hard to find piece, Minton.
CONDITION: The tip of the spout is rough. The finial is chipped. There is a very old spider style hairline on the rim of the cover. I have photographed all of these areas for you.
