We are so pleased to present this Antique Quebec Hand Hooked Rug Village Scene which is Circa 1900. This wonderful piece is a hand hooked, handmade hooked rug. There is a long and storied history of hooking in Quebec, much the same as Newfoundland with their Grenfell rugs and Nova Scotia's Cheticamp rugs. They tell the story of every day life in their homes and villages. In this rug this scene is the town itself. With the Stone church in the background and several homes to the front. The colors of the homes are so typical of French speaking Quebec. My thought has always been that they lived with the white of winter for so much of the year that having a colorful home was an escape from the white and brown of the darkness and cold of winter. The soft blue color of the sky is so perfect for this cold climate in the mid day. Please note the photo with the US dime. The hooks on this piece are tiny and even. It is clean and ready for you to frame and enjoy. I have collected these Quebec and other Canadian rugs for years. Most of the Quebec rugs were not signed. Sometimes you will find initials. This one really is "someone's" gift to us.
DIMENSIONS: 12 1/2" across x 10 ½"
CONDITION: The burlap is very good no problems no holes. Note that the rug is just as bright and colorful on the front as the back.
