We are delighted to present this Antique Shell Cameo of Hera The Goddess of Women and Marriage With a Rising Sun and Winged Eagle. This stunning large Cameo is a depiction of Hera the protector of marriage and women. She is surrounded by the rays of the sun, IE: light in one’s life and an Eagle with full wing spread, IE: strength. Finely and beautifully carved there is no damage to the shell or the frame of this lovely brooch. The machine done design on the frame has the look of sun rays mocking the cameo design. The family history of this brooch is so romantic and such a treat to know and be able to pass on with the brooch. It was a wedding gift in 1903 from a father to his daughter upon her marriage. The wedding took place in a small village south of Naples in Italy. The fathers name is Antonio Salerno, his daughters name was Cristina. I purchased this cameo decades ago from their daughter who lived in Denver. She did not have children and was ready to “let things go.” Knowing the history of the brooch and the meanings of the symbols shown makes this special piece even more wonderful. What a lovely item for a father to present to his daughter. You will not be disappointed this is a family heirloom piece.
