Steiff Gaty the Alligator Hand Puppet circa Mid 1960's
I recently purchased 3 Steiff hand puppets. They are not something I have a great deal of knowledge of so it’s been a learning curve. In this research I have found that this puppets name is Gaty and he was made in the 1960’s and early 1970’s. He does not have a button or tag. There is a white thread on his chest that the tag would have been attached to. His “hands” are stitched making it appear that he has fingers. His mouth is open and lined with a red felt. The stitches are done such that it looks like he has teeth. He does have a finger tube. I guarantee this to be Steiff.
DIMENSIONS: about 10” top of head to hem
CONDITION: As I said I’m by no means an expert on Steiff, but he looks good to me. Other than the afore mentioned no tag or button the puppet is in good condition. The mohair is fluffy and has no missing or matted areas.
