Japanese Garden Scene with Geishas Pencil Box Not Lacquered
I suspect everyone my age, 1950’s, remembers their Moms Japanese lacquered jewelry box. All those little boxes surely were one of the reasons Japans economy recovered after WW2. This sweet little Japanese box is a bit earlier than the lacquered boxes. Inside we found a hand written note: This box given to Loraine from Lizzie Craig- Smith St. Quincy, Mass. 1946. The inside never had any sort of fabric lining or paint. It has pencil and pens marks. The paperwork applied to the top is in very nice condition wit only a couple small areas of loss. Those are right on the edges of the box.
DIMENSIONS: 8 ½” x 2 ½” x 1 ½”
CONDITION: very nice vintage condition.
