This fantastic half dozen silver spoons from Shanghai, China have dragon handles and engraved lotus leaf bowls. The dragons are beautifully rendered. Winding their way around the handle of each spoon, they symbolize power, strength and good luck. At the tip of each spoon the dragon holds in its claw a flaming pearl, the symbol for wisdom, prosperity and spiritual energy. The back of the bowls are marked Shanghai with two engraved flowers, as well as two marks in Chinese that have not been identified and an 84 mark. There is also an 84 mark at the tip of the handle on the back. The set is obviously handmade and has the golden patina of older silver. We have neither polished nor cleaned this set, which dates to post 1960. The spoons measure 5 1/8" long and weigh a total of 103.8 grams or 3.33 ounces.
