The rich purplish-pink color of this synthetic corundum/sapphire stone makes this whole ring just pop with beauty and interest. When I first saw it, I was taken back, having never seen this art deco mounting set with a stone of this color in the 40+ years I have been in this business.
It is the original stone in this ring and we are reminded that synthetic rubies and sapphires were first created in 1875 and frequently used in art deco and other retro and period jewelry.
This mounting is a familiar art deco design featuring a significant center stone bordered by seed pearls in a white and yellow gold mounting. The mounting is primarily in white gold but the side detail is in yellow gold.
Inside the shank, it is marked “patpending 14k” and “14k with some maker’s mark.”
It is currently a size between 4 ¾ and 5. The ring weighs 7.2 grams.
