This vibrant vintage Australian opal ring flashes luscious shades of greens, blues, violets and pinks, all perfectly framed by creamy pearls. The opal hails from the famous Mintabie opal fields in South Australia. The opals from Mintabie are reputed to be the hardest of all Australian opals, possibly because the host rock, being from the Ordovician period (the second period of the Paleozoic era,) is older than host rocks of other Australian opal fields. The ring is substantial, the face measuring 13/16" by 5/8". The approx. 8ct opal measures 11/16" by 7/16" and the pearls are 2.5mm in diameter. In very good vintage condition the ring is a size 7, weighs 6.2 grams and is marked 14k Italy. For those who love the unique beauty of Australian opals, this ring is sure to delight!
