The design of this vintage Asian silver money toad or frog bell necklace is intriguing! Edged in delightful articulated frog bells it chimes with every swaying motion. The necklace measures approx. 17.5” long by 1 1/2” wide. Note the unusual closure at the back. Total weight is 180.7 grams or 6.37 ounces of sterling silver (assayed.) The back of the necklace is a flat mesh and the top is adorned with silver squares and flower-like ornamentation. In very good vintage condition, the necklace is one silver square deficient at the very back of the necklace near the clasp.
This necklace was acquired in the 1930s, likely in India, by a woman who spent a great deal of her life both traveling and living in various parts of Asia. The money frog or money toad is a prosperity charm in Feng Shui. This mythical creature is said to help attract wealth to the person possessing it.
