This antique Victorian 14k gold textured chain shows impeccable period craftsmanship, with three-dimensional textured links that alternate between round and oval. There is a drop at the bottom of the necklace to create a Y shape, which can be easily removed so that the chain can be worn alone, if desired. Undoubtedly from a very fine collection, the goldsmith who created this necklace took into consideration the security of the clasps. Both the chain around the neck, as well as the drop, are secured with an additional O link inside the clasp so that they can never be separated from the chain.
In excellent antique condition the chain has an antique patina which could easily be polished off, but we chose to leave that to the new owner as to whether they prefer their chain to look antique or newer. The necklace is of hollow construction, yet quite hefty at 40.5 grams. Assayed as 14k gold, the color is desirably rich and buttery. The clasps are in perfect working order and they open well and close securely. The links measure 3/8” in diameter, east to west at the widest part of the chain. The portion around the neck measures 20” long and the drop, an additional 1 13/16”.
Destined to become your favorite "go to" piece for daily wear, this rare Victorian 14k gold necklace will be fabulous worn alone as an antique chain or paired with a pendant of equally exceptional design and quality.
