This delightful mid-20th century French lion’s brooch was purchased in the 1960s in Paris and is signed: Fred, Paris on the bottom of the left paw. In addition, there are two indistinguishable marks on the pin.
Set with a faceted blue sapphire and 4 single cut diamonds, the open eye appears to look straight at you while the other eye is closed and punctuated with an “X!”
The lion’s mane is designed in varying lengths of gold strands and is articulated, slightly moving back and forth to add interest and animation. Fun to look at, this amusing caricature sports exaggerated whiskers and a prominent tail, tucked under foot and extending up towards the whiskers on the left hand side.
This spirited piece of jewelry is for the person who loves animal jewelry, treasures Lions, enjoys wearing a noticeable and fun piece and for the collector of the unusual and charming.
Full of personality, this enjoyable brooch measures approximately 1½” x 1¼” x 5/8” and weighs 20.2 grams.
