This antique Victorian French 18k gold bracelet in the form of three engraved and enameled shields comes in its own original fitted presentation box. The design of the bracelet is quite regal with obvious heraldic influence. The focal point is a large, central shield embellished on top and bottom with a gold orb. On either side are two shield shaped links set sideways. The royal blue and white enamel is intricate and quite beautiful surrounded by ornate period engraving. Originally there was some slight age commensurate enamel loss, which has been professionally restored.
The links of the bracelet are elongated, curved, and three dimensional. The clasp is in perfect working order and there is an Eagle’s head mark on the tongue, indicating that the bracelet is French and 18k gold. The safety chain is gold plated. In good antique condition, there are no dings or dents to note and the hinges have been reinforced on the interior so that they are strong and in perfect working order.
The central plaque composed of three shields measures 1 1/8” north to south and 1 7/8" east to west, . The narrower side and back portions of the bracelet are 3/8” wide. The length of the bracelet is 7” long and the total weight is 18.1 grams.
The original fitted velvet and satin presentation box has some wear to the outside, with slight leather peeling at the base of the back and a small tear to one of the interior ribbons. The interior is quite clean for its age. The box measures 3 1/4” square at the base and is 2 1/2” tall.
