This handsome antique Victorian Indian colonial sterling silver footed beaker is finished with a warm, gilt interior. The exterior is beautifully engraved with foliage, scrolls and with a period crest. The engraved motto is for the Fitzgerald family with a cipher form monogram.
The marks are for Charles, Nephew & Co. The Victorian period in Britain was from 1837-1914 but there were numerous British colonies across the globe. The beaker is 6 1/2 inches high and weighs 8.90 ounces. The diameter, at the top is 3 9/16" with a 3" diameter at the bottom. In very good antique condition, the base is slightly misshapen when looking at it from the bottom side.
Decorative and functional, impressive and sophisticated in its execution and detail, it is not often that such objects of interest and rank become available. Fresh to the market, this beaker has been privately owned for 40 years and, prior to that, it was in the private collection of a midwestern appraiser and antiques dealer. A most attractive accessory for a library or a bar or a cabinet of fine objets d'art, this personable item would make a special gift or represent a prized acquisition.
