We are delighted to offer antique Victorian doll and antique Victorian toy lovers this beautiful, all original, top quality musical Marotte doll. Dating from the last quarter of the 19th century, circa 1880 this very refined bisque porcelain socket headed doll is such a sweetie. Probably French in origin, she is unmarked apart from an impressed number 2/0 to the rear of her head. She has very pale skin and superbly painted features which very much point to a GOOD maker such as Francois Gaultier? This fashion doll sized doll comes to you in untouched original condition. Free from damage to her face/head, and in good working order.

She is called a musical marotte doll. She is dressed in typical silk Jester attire complete with a bisque hand painted socket head only (not a shoulder head) with finely painted brush stroked and feathered brows and lashes. Gorgeous pale blue swirl glass eyes with accented corners. Shaded nostrils, original blonde mohair curly locks and silk padded jester hat. She is sooo pretty. Her head is attached to a cylindrical card body with wooden stick to the centre of the body cylinder. It is this cylinder body that holds the music box player. When you rotate the stick/doll as a whole you will hear her delightful musical tune playing. The cylinder body retains its original Jester silk clothing with antique lace trimmings, gold Dresden paper and silk ribbon bows.

Size: 12" Tall by 4 1/2" wide and deep. The small, beautiful quality head is approximately 2" tall.

Condition. Good working order, head all good, free from damage. Much loved by a child as the original silk clothing is worn/discoloured with age (bleeding to the red silk dye, perhaps from too many garden tea parties -caught out in the rain). The hat is glued to the head with old animal glue, and the hair is glued to the hat, now a little loose in places. The wooden stick has dry/flaked areas to the original varnish finish. Probably had little pom poms or bells attached to her hat and dress points, now missing (any easy fix). Please study our many pictures as they are a true representation of condition.

She is 100% adorable, we guarantee that you will love her so very much.

We attribute this doll to Francois Gaultier, but another doll company may have made her.
