This is not your ordinary Georgian steel sewing clamp. What lifts it above the ordinary, you ask? The maker, is the answer. This very elegant, combined pincushion, netting hook and table clamp with love heart finial to the thumb screw was made by the best British steel manufacturer of that day - Joseph Rodgers and Sons of Norfolk Street, Sheffield. As stated on the stamped pincushion trough, Rodgers were cutlers (steel makers) to his majesty, George 1V (1820-1830). In fact after this item was, during their long and illustrious career, the company went on to acquire a further four Royal Warrants during the reign of William Iv (1830-37), Victoria (1837-1901), Edward VII (1901-1910) and Finally George V (1910-1936). The products made by Joseph Rodgers & Sons were sold from their Norfolk Street showrooms and by catalogue to the famous, and wealthy all over the world. These top quality British steel items were purchased by Kings, Queens, Princes, Sha's and Dukes spanning the globe.

This top quality sewing and netting clamp was like having another pair of hands to aid you when you were stitching long hems, Once clamped to your table top it rigid strength would hold firm your sewing and netting projects. The original crimson velvet pincushion remains in remarkable condition.

Condition. Very good. Minor age oxidizing to the cut steel which is to be expected after 203 years.
