This wonderful tooled leather and ormolu Aide Memoire was produced in France during the 19th century, in the year 1823. Aide-mémoire is a French word meaning ‘a memory-aid.’ This fine example was produced in France, and retailed in the Palais Royal shopping arcades of Paris.

The Aide Memoire features light brown tooled leather covers with pressed ormolu detailing. Notice the central ormolu plaque to the front featuring a globe, artist’s palette and sextant. The text on the plaque reads reading ‘Souvenir.’ Stunning!

The Aide Memoire also features a Gilt pencil holder which also acts as a lock, keeping the covers closed in place. We adore the cross hatched seal impression to the top of the pencil holder.

The Aide Memoire opens to reveal its original storage compartment to the front, silk lined papers, gilt edges papers and 7 day note taking section in hard paper/card. Several of the papers have previous owner’s inscriptions in English relating to life in France. Most of the pages are blank. On the final page we find an 1823 calendar complete with printer/publishers details for Le Fuel Book store located at Rue St Jacques, No 54, Paris, France.
