This is a very appealing little Georgian portrait miniature on card that is ready to hang and cherish. The small, gilt circular frame and the beautiful sitter make for the most perfect combination.
The young lady wears a center parting with a high bun to her crown and ringlets draping over the nape of her neck. This was a typical hairstyle of the Jane Austen Regency period, circa 1810. The painting is housed behind old glass in its original gilt gesso frame.
Measuring: Frame width 4 5/8 inch (11.5 cm) by height 5 inch (12.5 cm). Frame depth 1 inch (2.5 cm). Watercolor width 1.5 inch (4 cm) by height 1 7/8 inch (5 cm).
Condition: The frame has two touch up repairs to one side of the frame, approx 2/8 inch wide. There is some minor cracking to the surface of the age faded gesso but nothing serious or in any way unstable. The painting on card has fine cracking and grazing to the surface of the watercolor which is very common with items of this age.
