We are thrilled to offer this gorgeous little Regency era portrait. The female sitter instantly appealed with her gentle countenance. This small, original portrait was painted in England during the early 19th century, circa 1820.
This original watercolour portrait is painted on card. The sitter is an attractive young lady in profile view. The young lady is wearing a fabulous crimson red dress with high, Empire period waistline. She has a sheer muslin pale greeny/blue shawl around her shoulders. She is wearing a red coral necklace with a central gold locket. Her elegant hair is upswept in a Grecian style chignon, taking inspiration from classical Roman and Greek tradition. The quality of the painting is absolutely astonishing; this is a fine portrait by talented and confident artist. The portrait is so life like! The painting is housed behind convex glass in a papier mache frame.
This is a unique opportunity to own such a stunning portrait. Portraits of young ladies are much less common. Please see our collection of 18th and 19th century art and antiques listed separately in our store.
