This is such a charming little plate of the most perfect small proportions. This child’s nursery ware plate dates from circa 1820 and has THE most feather weight, lightly potted body with the distinctive bluey pearlware glaze.. The plate features a crisp blue and white transfer printed design titled ‘The Boat. My Grandfather.’

The design depicts a grandfather playing with his grandchild. This is such a charming scene, you can see grandad pushing the toy boat around the wash bowl. Notice also the little cat sat on the chair behind him.

The text is an extract from a William Upton poem titled ‘My Grandfather.’ The text reads ‘The Boat. Who made for me a little boat, and did my joy-struck-eye denote. To see it on the water float? My Grandfather.

The plate also features the most wonderful raised vine leaf border. What a fabulous little plate, this lovely item has a such wide appeal. Perfect for anyone who loves, blue and white, sailing, toys, cats or as a gift for a grandfather or grandchild.
This fine plate was produced as one of a pair, each sold separately in our store. Please see our collection of 18th and 19th century art and antiques listed separately in our store.
