A super find for your period costume collection. This finely knitted and glass beaded child's cap originated circa 1820 to 1840 from Europe, most likely Germany. The white cotton knit is so fine and the pink beaded roses are absolutely to die for. We also adore the trailing turquoise bead borders and open work swirl design to the crown. Please see identical examples held at major world museums, the MFA and The Met.
Size: Too small for our adult cap mannequin but not new born either, would estimate for a 2 year old. When laid flat, folded in half, front to back 5.5", chin to top 6"
Condition: Good unlaundered condition. There is minor age foxing to the white knitted ground as seen in our images.
