This rare and decorative matching tea bowl and saucer (handleless cup)was produced in England during the early 19th century, circa 1810. This is an extremely uncommon piece. The blue and white transferware design depicts a vase framed within a decorative strapwork border full of floral sprays. We particularly like the addition of the large phoenix/hoho type bird that’s sits above the vase. We have not seen another example like this. The late previous owner, a seasoned porcelain dealer and collector, attributed this to the Ridgway factory.

This is a fine example of a piece of early English Pearlware. This is the perfect item for a collector; we are experienced in this field and have not seen another example like it.

Provenance: Trevor Kentish (b 1938 — d 2017) was an experienced collector of English blue and white pottery and porcelain and the former editor of The Friends of Blue society. He was a member of the society for some 30 years as well as the treasurer for several other pottery and porcelain societies.

Please see our collection of 18th and 19th century art and antiques listed separately in our store.
