We adore this rare little all original watercolor. This stunning little watercolor portrait was painted in the 19th century, circa 1840. Although currently living here in England, we do feel that this portrait and unusual frame may be of American origin?
The portrait depicts a young Victorian lady in profile view. We particularly like the way in which the artist has painted the sitter’s curls and earrings. What makes this painting particularly desirable is the highly unusual, all original, pressed brass frame. The painting is on paper or card and is housed behind its original lovely old glass in its original frame.
This is a fabulous all original painting, the perfect country house artwork.
Measuring: Frame width 5 inch (12.5 cm) by height 5.75 inch (15 cm). Aperture width 7 cm by height 3.5 inch (9 cm).
Condition: Minor paint flaking to her black dress at the bottom, clearly seen on the images. Light age debris under glass. Beautiful aging to the metal frame.
We have been retailing original 18th and early 19th century portrait miniatures on card for over 20 years. All of our portraits are guaranteed 100% authentic, we do not sell reproductions. We always advise that if you wish to purchase an antique miniature portrait that you handle as many genuine examples as you can, and only buy from a reputable antique shop. We are saddened to inform that the online market place has many modern fakes/copies circulating at the moment.
