A beautiful early 19th century ladies cap of German origin. This style of metal lace encrusted headwear was worn in Germany circa 1755 through to 1850. Our example dates from the 1820 period. This is such a pretty example that looks superb on display. Showing its vast age a little, but after a few centuries I think that we can forgive it a few minor issues.

Of a more shallow design, this 3 sectional cap was made to be worn over a plain white cotton cap. Worked in a brocaded woven silk of pale gold/champagne and black. We see gorgeous goldy pewter metal lace bullion to the seams and edges - this metal lace is sooo intricate combining metal flat strips and metal wrapped silk threads. The interior is lined with blue homespun cloth. Having blue silk edgings. Having a later but very old applied blue silk bow to the nape of the neck, a very common practice to alter/update existing headwear to suit current fashions (this blue silk bow was applied via a black metal pin and the pin is stuck fast after such a long time).

Size: Approx 9 inches tall from the top to base of chin lapel. Approx 6 inch wide across the back and 4.25 inch deep through.

Condition: Strong with some age shredding to the woven silk body at the top of back section (see images). The silk ribbon bow at the base of the neck is very fragile/shredded with age. As you would expect, minor age dulling to the metal lace and a small area of damaged lace in the right ear area.
