Trinity Antiques
is now SALE PENDINGAn adorable and very romantic wall pocket from Regency England, Circa 1820.
This fine example was wrought in silk upon a silver wrapped thread ground. The silk tent stitches are absolutely tiny and are a reflection of a Regency lady's diligence with a needle.
We see a very small flaming heart at the top flanked by two birds. Beneath is a song bird carrying a garland of flowers. Inside the garland are the initials G & C. Next we see a band of roses with floral rose spray beneath. Then we have the pocket with geometric triangular motif border. The central scene of the pocket is a basket of English flowers underline with a floral swag. The tidy has retained its silver fly fringe edging and its original plain woven silk backing. The silk bow to the top appears all original. The interesting point being the internal stiffener, this is actually a sheet of vellum (often used for strengthening pocketbooks in the 18th and early 19th century). This is so pretty, just perfection.
Size: 9 inch (23 cm) tall or 11.5 inch (30 cm) if you include the top silk bow. 4 inch (10 cm) at its widest point.
Condition: Very good sound condition. Just signs of light age to the reverse, the top cream silk bow has been re-attached at many points in its 200 year history.
