A gorgeous little silk embroidered picture circa 1800 to 1820. This small silkwork is one of a pair, each sold individually. Housed in its original wooden circular frame (which has restoration see below). It has its original old bubbled glass and hanger. This is an adorable subject with great symbolism.
The plain silk background is hand embroidered in silk floss and depicts a faithful dog sat beneath a tree. To his left a large Pansy flower and to his right two floating love hearts. The entire scene is full of symbolism. The dog symbolizes fidelity, the Pansy remembrance and the two hearts eternal love. A circular border of teeny seed stitches surrounds the scene.
This little silk needlework was probably made as a memorial love token. Very romantic and utterly adorable.
Size: Needlework approx 2 7/8" diameter (7.5 cm) . Framed size: 5" by 0.75" (12.5 cm) by (2 cm)
Condition: The silk is strong with no tears or perishing. Some general fading to the silk floss thread, seen in the love hearts. It is the FRAME that has suffered. The frame has sustained much insect damage, it has been treated and the holes filled but evidence of the holes is still visible (reflected in the price).
