Who could not resist the pull of pretty floral embroidery and velvet with a sprinkling of silk passementarie trimming too!!
This gorgeous hanging pincushion was made in France circa 1870 to 1890. Flat backed and padded slightly at the front it was designed to hang from your wall next to your favorite chair for sewing. The brown velvet body is hand embroidered in varying shades of blue, green and peach silk threads. We see scrolling rose buds among fleur de lys tendrils on metal wrapped thread (passing) stalks. The edges are trimmed with braided cord and silk looped passementarie....so pretty! To the reverse we see the original plain woven linen/cotton.
This is truly gorgeous example to hang in your sewing room or to use as a cushion for the display of some favorite jewels/antique smalls!!
Size: 10" (26 cm) tall including top suspension loop by 5.5" (14 cm) at its widest point incl trimmings.
Condition: Very good, all original, authentic condition. Some old reattachment stitches to twisted braid edging. Some minor wear to the outer looped passementarie trimming but nothing untoward. Age darkening to the linen backing as one would expect.
