This is a unique opportunity to own a delightful set of six antique 18th century hand colored bird engravings. Each of the engravings was produced in France circa 1780. They are each housed in modern, antique style grey frames that really do suit these engravings, and of course are ready for you to hang on your gallery wall.
Each of the engravings are from the book ‘Histoire Naturelle Générale et Particulière (1749-1804); Histoire Naturelle Des Oiseaux (1770-1783)."
The set include:
Le Scops Ou Petit Duc, drawn by Jacques Eustache De Seve and engraved by Menil. The Scops Owl is a tiny owl about the size of a robin.
La Lavandiere La Bergeronette, drawn by Jacques Eustache De Seve and engraved by Marie Anne Tardieu Rousselet. The print features wagtail and gray wagtail perched on the shoreline.
Le Traquet Le Motteux ou Cul-Blanc, drawn by Jacques Eustache De Seve and engraved by Mr Veuve Tardieu. The print features a little Wheatear and a Northern Wheatear perched next to a stream.
L’echasse, drawn by Jacques Eustache De Seve and engraved by Marie Catherine Haussard. The print features a Stilt wader bird hunting for fish on the shoreline; we love the imposing fortress that stands above the rocks.
La Casse-Noix, drawn by Jacques Eustache De Seve and engraved by Marie Catherine Haussard. The print features a spotted nutcracker perched next to a river amongst the most wonderful setting.
La Linotte, drawn by Jacques Eustache De Seve and engraved by Laurent Guyot. The print features a Linnet resting on a branch among a wonderful farmyard scene.
