Add a touch of 200 plus history to your interior with this charming porcelain bell shape tankard that was produced in China during the 18th century, circa 1760 under the Qianlong Emperor. Amazing to think that this was produced just after the 1754 Albany Congress in the US. Which was the first time in the 18th century that American colonial representatives had met to talk about some manner of formal union.

This 260 year old Chinese export tankard features a hand painted Island pattern in the polychome imari palette with a handsome replacement ‘make do’ wicker wrapped metal handle. Metal handles were used to replace the broken porcelain handle; pieces with this style of repair are collectible in their own right and are very popular with both porcelain collectors and interior designers.

A nearly three hundred year old item, we can’t image the journey it has encountered and the people it has seen. We adore the Chinese landscape with the vast mountains, village and river below. Difficult to see, but the gold highlights add a sense of magic to this old survivor. We love to use these ancient 18th C tankards as storage vessels for seasonal displays, feathers, flowers, twigs or in the kitchen for wooden cooking utensils or to hold an artist's brushes/pencils etc.

Measuring: Width including handle 5 3/8 inch (13.5 cm) by height 5.25 inch (13 cm).

Condition: Three chips to rim, a few hairlines from the chips. Old wicker missing from handle to expose under metal. Please take care when handling as the chips are a little sharp/ glass like on this 18th C hard paste porcelain.
