An extremely beautiful example of a genuine circa 1820 ladies coin purse. This fine example is fit for a Queen, or a fashion museum as its condition is very good indeed. This QUALITY purse feels amazing in one's hand.

Dating from 1815 to 1820, when small framed coin purses were all the rage, after the introduction in 1815 of the gold sovereign. Purses were a favorite item to be bought ready made or as was often the case, the frame purchased and the body made at home. This allowed for a vast individuality as purse body's could be made using so many differing techniques and in so many materials. Silk thread could be netted, or netted with beads, a finely knitted body was popular worked on teeny steel knitting needles. Glass beaded bodies were also popular, so too embroidered designs upon silk fabric. Possibilities were endless, the making of purses a very popular pastime and a very popular gift. Even Jane Austen mentions in one of her novels the making of a purse for gifting.

Our example has THE most special ormolu and cut steel frame. We have retailed many Regency coins purses over the years but this is one of the finest frames as it encapsulates two of THE most fashionable metals of the period. The tiny floral roundels are divine and the faceted cut steel floral centers are equally divine. The finely netted body is gorgeous, punctuated with the incorporated teeny gold faceted beads. The 'icing on the cake' is the matching gilt base terminal. The buttery gold ormolu crown terminal is truly exceptional, the gilded six prong tassel is equally impressive. Complete with top push button opener, this is a purse fit for any discerning Regency fashion collection.

Size: Purse body height 3.5" (9.5 cm) by 2.75" (6.5 cm). Including base tassel 5" (13 cm) tall

Condition: Very good to excellent. We cannot say pristine as this is a 200 year old item and there is some very minimal signs of age. A few of the cut steel central roundels have age tarnished but nothing serious.

A stunning, stunning example that glows and delights just as it did 200 years ago for its Regency owner. We know that you will love it and we cannot wait to unite her with her next guardian.
