This 19th century Victorian child's transferware nursery plate was made in England in the 1840s. Children’s nurseryware plates and mugs were made by many of the Staffordshire potteries during the 19th century. For the first time Children became a 'marketing' group in their own right, these pottery objects to be given as educational aids, or gifts/rewards for good children. They make for a fascinating collecting field as their subject matter is vast ranging from personalized gifts for a special named child to moral, biblical, caricature and humorous, flowers and animals, rhymes and verses, commemorative, political/satirical, entertainments, etc, etc, etc......They work wonderfully well when displayed with folk art or samplers.

This Octagonal shape plate is titled ‘The Pet’ and features a transfer printed design depicting a young lady stood with her pet dog in classical style gardens. The plate also features a moulded wreath border, what a lovely little item. This charming piece will display excellently in any collection. The perfect item for anyone who loves nurseryware, dogs or all things Georgian and Victorian.

Measuring: Diameter 5.25 inch (13 cm).

Condition: Very good with natural crazing to the glaze throughout.
