This utterly charming portrait was purchased as one of a pair husband and wife, each sold separately (although it would be lovely not to separate them). The pair are two of the most characterful portrait miniatures we have owned.

The watercolor painting depicts a middle aged female sitter in three quarter view. She is wearing a day dress of brown silk with high Empire waist line. She wears a stunning lace fill-in or tucker (modesty panel over the bosom). She wears a high neck ruff of lace and a matching lace day cap. The artist has very cleverly created a three dimensional look to the lace by the use of dots of thicker pigment to achieve almost a pin prick effect. We adore this little 210 year old portrait as it gives us a snapshot of what people looked like and what they wore during the Regency era.

The portrait is on card or paper and is housed being its original convex glass in its original papier mache framed.

Measuring: 3 7/8 inch (10 cm) by height 4.75 inch (12 cm). Aperture width 2 inch (5 cm) by height 2 3/8 inch (6 cm).

Condition: Small are of damage just above her eye, clearly shown in our many images. Sadly the portrait has been opened carelessly in the past, tearing the portrait and old animal glue from the backing card. A few minor bumps to bottom edge of frame.
