A very pretty, all original dolls corset from the last quarter of the 19th century. This circa 1890 era pretty has its original maker and retailers label inside. It was very well made, a to scale version of an adult corset. It's cotton printed interior label states that it is The C.B Doll's Corset. manufactured expressly for E.Grey, Bull Street, Birmingham. E Grey was a 19th century department store in Birmingham, England that was in operation until the 1960's when it was demolished.
Ref: York Museum's Trust for an adult version, object number: YORCM : TSS50
The corset is made from a woven cotton brocade with black background and stylized pink cherry and blossom, very naturalistic, very Art Noveau. It has a steel stay support either side of the front and back openings. Lovely finished top and bottom taped seams. Good quality lace top and bottom edging. Fastens at the front with steel hoops and studs, each hoop has the stamped maker's initials CB and their motif. Laces down the back through metal eyelets and black lace tie.
Size: Top chest 4.25" across, waist approx 3.75", hips approx 5". Total height 6.75"
Condition: This was a child's favorite garment for her doll. Too many tea parties show staining and rusting to the interior. Sadly 7 eyelets are completely missing to the left side only. However, good and strong, perfectly usable and she displays very well.
