This is THE perfect Christmas gift. This utterly charming musical Christmas card was produced in England during the early 20th century, circa 1950. The cover features a depiction of the nativity scene with Joseph and Mary looking over Jesus in the manger. The card opens to reveal a Christmas message, with the original owner’s inscription reading ‘To ma with love from Daisy’. To the right edge of the card we find the wooden handle which when turned slowly - as instructed - plays Silent Night. ‘Silent Night’ is a popular Christmas carol, composed in 1818 by Franz Xaver Gruber to lyrics by Joseph Mohr in the small town of Oberndorf bei Salzburg, Austria.
The song plays so well and instantly puts one in the Christmas spirit, what a wonderful gift this would have been to receive. The left side of the card even includes the sheet music for the song. Much thought clearly went into this musical card.
The reverse of the box features the manufactures label, the box was produced by Kaye – Kards LTD, London with the musical movement supplied by Selcol Products LTD.
