We are excited to offer this sweet little wax shoulder head new born baby made by one of the leading lights of the wax doll industry at this mid Victorian period. This small and perfectly modelled baby was made by the Pierotti family of London. Of course the marriage of Queen Victoria to Prince Albert and the ensuing nine children had a huge impact on the wax doll industry. Dolls were made with baby like mannerisms complete with short hair, chubby wrinkles and the cutest dispositions.
This small babe fits all of the above and comes complete with all of its many layers of original Victorian fine cotton clothing. He/she has original strawberry blonde rooted in tufts human hair, fabulous expressive wax moulding including heavy wax lids, hand painted brows, slightly down turned mouth, dimples to the face, and hands with wrinkled child wrists, dimpled little chubby feet with individual toes. He/she has original Pierotti trademark eyes of sleeping blue swirl blue glass eyes with deep indigo ring around the iris. Complete with all original Pierotti poured wax limbs. His/her cloth body is stuffed with horsehair and has a Hamleys toy retailer printed stamp to the body (this luxury London toy warehouse specailized in retailing high end European dolls and toys). The doll's limbs are attached via the usual Pierotti trademark strong original thread and brass washers. This petite little doll can sit as it has the stitching at her hips.
The Pierotti Family of London established their business back in the 1790s. Enrico Pierotti fiercely proud to be able to realistically model wax dolls based on human sitters. One of his trade advertisements marketed the service of him being able to 'make the doll's wig from the client's own hair'.

His face is a little faded from the original rose pink tone - this is where it has been displayed in the light. His lower leg has a section of wax missing and evidence of an old repair to the same calf. His/her clothing is all in good order with some perishing to the original silk ribbon dress ties and only the tiniest old fox mark to the back of the Christening robe.
A beautiful, bonnie babe in this very small scale, complete with all original layers on 19th century cotton clothing.
