A rare little needlework etui from the late Georgian/ regency period. Beautifully wrought in red, green and pink wool and silk in a vibrant flame stitch or bargello design upon a canvas ground. We adore the faceted green Vauxhall glass button. One of a near pair each sold individually, perhaps a his and hers or for two sisters of the house, see last images.

It is likely that this small narrow case would have been made to store a house key rather than scissors. Remember that keys were large two hundred years ago. Large iron keys if kept loose in one's pocket or reticule could easily get snagged and damage the reticule/pocket. Therefore individual key cases were made to store ones house key, this case could be carried or suspended from ones waist.

Size:4.5" tall by 1.5" ( suspended length 9.5")

Condition: This little case was regularly used. There is wear to the stitching near the bottom to expose the under canvas. The inner pink silk lining is shredded with age/usage.
