This delightful early Victorian watercolor portrait of lady was produced in England during the 19th century, circa 1840. We adore the detailed and very personal portrait of this elegant young woman. The painting depicts a young lady standing in the grounds of her country estate, the estate is in a glorious coastal setting with a sheltered cove/ private beach in the background (possibly in Cornwall/Dorset, England). The lady is wearing a light blue striped dress with fashionable low, sloping shoulders with pointed V waist and lace collar, she wears a ribbon tie with a large brooch, in her hand she is holding a single red rose. She also wears a watch guard chain made of cord or possibly hair. The painting is of excellent quality, the swept frame really brings out the piece. The painting is on paper and is housed behind glass in its original attractive antique rococo frame.
