This delightful sterling silver Queen Victoria commemorative frame dates to 1901 to commemorate the death of her Royal highness - see the inner black band. Queen Victoria was Queen of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland from 1837 to her death in 1901. The pressed sterling silver photo frame is of miniature proportions, it has some wonderful details such as the wreath surrounding the bezel, the Crown at the top of the frame and the commemorative plaque at the base of the frame reading ‘VR 1819 – 1901’. Displayed inside behind glass is an antique print of Queen Victoria. The piece is fully hallmarked: ‘S & P’ manufacturers mark.
Anchor mark of the Birmingham Assay Office Lion passant, the standard silver sterling mark. Date letter ‘a’ for the year 1900.
Measuring: Measuring: Width 1 5/8 inch (4 cm) by height 2 1/8 inch (5 cm). Aperture width 7/8 inch (2.3 cm) by height 1 1/8 inch (2.6 cm)
Condition: Good display condition but not perfect. There are some small perforations to the centre of the print Two of the silver retaining clasps have broken away to the reverse, the remaining two are delicate. In order to secure the contents we have sympathetically applied double sided tape to the interior, this of course could easily be removed. The easel card flap has an old pin remedy to help it stand which works well.
This is a very cute Victorian silver frame that is waiting to charm its next guardian.
