We were smitten by this exceptional late Georgian portrait, it truly was love at first sight. The subject, composition and the STUNNING unopened original frame make this a very special portrait to enhance your collection. Unfortunately these days, examples as pure and untouched as this are very scarce....enjoy.
This wonderful watercolor portrait of a girl dates to the early 19th century, circa 1830. This little girl is wearing a typical 1830s period dress with the diagonal V shaped bodice. We adore the fly fringe detailing. She looks absolutely adorable holding that pretty white rose in her hand. To the foreground we see a natural foliage and in the background we see a rural landscape of imposing rolling hills. This talented painting is unsigned, we have not opened this piece. The all original painting is housed under its original old bubbled glass set within its original Regency era gilded frame. The water gilding has gently worn with time to expose the mellowed under clay bole of a pale peach/terracotta.
Measuring: Frame width 10.75 inch (27 cm) by height 12 inch (30.5 cm). Aperture width 6 5/8 inch (16.5 cm) by height 7.75 inch (20 cm).
Condition: Very good, completely original and unopened. The frame with a gorgeous patina. The original suspension string was disintegrating and so we will replace with new picture wire.
