A fabulous example that we are very excited to be able to bring to you. The age, material, composition and colorway a must for any discerning collector. This micro beadwork beauty works SO WELL with so many items for example: samplers, antique beaded purses, americana folk art, sewing accessories, miniature needleworks etc..... the display opportunities are endless.

Dating from the 1830s period, this gorgeous little pincushion has two different sable beadwork scenes to each face. To the top seed bead face we see a tiny house (the black larger beads used for windows, door and chimney give a 3D effect). This cute cottage has an out of scale red bird perched on its chimney, to the right an outsized flower again with bird perched to its top - very reminiscent of sampler motifs. Above the birds we see the maker or recipients initials in teeny, white sand size beads of WC. The graduated beadwork background is worked in two shades of wonderful ochre/ mustard with a salmon pink and navy blue beadwork border. The reverse face shows a very attractive red beadwork bird upon a navy blue beadwork background. Red lozenge and teeny intricate cross motifs surround the bird. The glass beads are tiny sable beads approx 21 beads per row or 444 beads per square inch!!!

The dark blue ruched silk sides that hold the pins (one pin remains) are a later replacement that look very pretty but are rather crudely stitched. The blue silk replacement probably added as the original sides were perished - we have not wished to remove the blue silk to check. The pincushion filling feels like a soft wadding.

Size: 3" by 3.25" by 1.25"

Condition: Four missing beads to the front bottom right corner. Approx 17 missing beads over all missing to the reverse. As mentioned previously the silk edge fabric a later replacement.
