A gorgeous little pair of French opera glasses contained in their original silk lined late Victorian blue silk velvet bag. This oh so cute pair originate during the belle epoque period; it is so easy to imagine them being used at the theater or opera during this glamorous period. The casing is a plated brass with engine turned decoration. There is not any maker's mark on this cute pair. They are a delight to hold and use. Their very small size and soft velvet carry bag allow them to be stored in your pocket or handbag. Such a handy little tool for a night in the upper circle or the gods or a day at the races or night at a concert.....
Size: 3.75" wide by 1.75" high, when fully extended just over 2.25" tall.
Condition: Not perfect, with some signs of some wear because this pair have been an absolute favorite and one can see why. However, they are in FULL working order. They have some minor faults, the original side handle has been replaced long ago for probable convenience with a soft black velvet ribbon handle. There is a crack to the outer casing below the focus wheel. This does not affect anything as the focus works perfectly and the eyeglass scopes move in and out effortlessly.
