This is an exceptional quality portrait miniature of a young lady that was painted in England during the early 19th century, circa 1820 to 1835. This is one of the finest Regency era portrait miniatures that we have encountered; the attention to detail is truly outstanding. It’s scarce to find a portrait miniature of this fineness painted on card or paper.
We see a young late 20s lady with top coiled bun, center parting and ringlets framing her face. She wears a dropped shoulder brown dress with full sleeves, natural straight waist and ruched bodice. Around her bare chest she wears a lace modesty panel with Vandyke scallop edges and blue silk bow. We see a small mourning lace pin in the center of this checkered silk bow. We absolutely love the sitters gold drop earrings and her soulful expression. The painting is housed behind glass in an earlier 18th century pressed brass frame. The painting is unsigned we have not opened this portrait but as you can see, it was undoubtedly painted by a very accomplished artist.
Measuring: Frame height 5 inch (12.5 cm) by width 4 inch (10 cm). Aperture height 3 7/8 inch (9.5 cm) by width 2.75 inch (7 cm).
Condition: Tiny old hole to side of frame where a hangar has been moved. A small surface scratch to the paint above the sitters left shoulder and a faint surface scratch at 2 o clock....minimal but mentioned for accuracy.
Please stop a while and browse our other period portrait profiles, we have a passion for them. They really do look wonderful displayed in a grouping.
