This charming miniature watercolor portrait on card of a dashing Georgian gentleman was produced in England during the early 19th century, circa 1820. The sitter has been painted in profile, we particularly like the way the artist has suggested his sideburns and very curly hair using the tiniest of brush strokes. The accomplished artist has captured the strong, determined character of this young chap. His clothing has been painted in good detail by the artist, we see a black stock/neck cloth, deep lapelled frock coat with M notch, all highlighted with darkest black. The painting is housed behind its original convex glass in original papier mache frame, complete with its rich gilt bezel and acorn top hanger. We particularly like the preparatory sketch to the back of the card. This is a quality little painting by a very good artist. This is the perfect addition to your discerning collection of portrait miniatures.
