A wonderfully quirky and rare gilt metal/brass thimble holder dating from the 1860-70 period. This delightful antique Victorian sewing accessory depicts a highly detailed ladder back carver chair complete with ash or elm grain, arms and stretchers. Across the arms is the original gilt metal and velvet cushion to hold ones pins complete with its integral brass stand for holding ones thimble (old thimble included).
Size: 4 10/16"tall by 2.25" wide and 2" through.
Condition: All original free from repairs or restoration. The brass legs splay out a little at the bottom through wear. The red velvet pincushion is very used and the velvet pile is worn.
