This delightful watercolor of a bird dates to the 19th century, circa 1840. The watercolor has been painted on very unusual plant fibre paper then backed by embossed paper with a perforated border. The subject is a vibrant exotic bird perched on a branch among vibrant yellow flowers. This charming combination was probably displayed within a 19th century album. We love the bright yellow flowers; the attention to detail is astonishing for such a small watercolor painting. The painting is housed behind old glass in a decorative faux grain painted period wood frame. This is a decorative, detailed little painting that will display excellently, it is ready to hang. This painting could also be hung in a portrait position, see image.
Measuring: Frame height 6.75 inch (17.5 cm) by width 8 3/8 inch (21 cm). Aperture height 4 1/8 inch (10.5 cm) by width 5 5/8 inch (14.5 cm).
Condition: Some minor bumps to the edges of the frame as one would expect with a period frame, an area of touch up to the outer edge of the fame at 11 o clock. New backing paper added to secure.
